Treatments
ISPM15 heat treatment is a wood treatment process used in the production of wood packaging that meets the requirements of the International Standard for Phytosanitary Protection of Wood and Wood Products (ISPM15). This standard was introduced to prevent the spread of wood pests and diseases through international trade.
The ISPM15 heat treatment consists of heating the wood to a temperature of at least 56°C for at least 30 minutes in a kiln-dried heat treatment or other suitable heating method. This process removes or destroys harmful organisms such as insect larvae, fungi and bacteria that may be present in the wood.
After the heat treatment, the wood is marked with a specific ISPM15 stamp, acknowledging that it has been treated and that it complies with international plant protection standards. This mark can be checked at border checkpoints and other inspection points to ensure that the wood is not infected with harmful organisms and does not pose a risk to the environment or other plants and animals.
The ISPM15 heat treatment thus ensures that wood used in wood packaging is safe, clean and meets international standards, thereby protecting the environment and providing effective protection against harmful organisms that may be present in wood.
